April 11, 2003 I was watching Oprah last night, it was a show on how over rated weddings are. Traumatic stories of brides who got too caught up in the whole planning process of a "perfect wedding" and missed on how to actually plan or cope with what happens after the honeymoon is over and your living an ordinary life. What I was surprised to know was that 90% brides suffer from depression, sometimes severe enough to strain their relationship with their husbands to-be and brides reeling into feelings of "oh-no-i-made-a-mistake"! And I thought this depression only existed in the east, because of girls being too domestic and too attached to their parents. According to psychologists, marriage is more of a difficult change for women than for MEN (Why am I NOT surprised!) Depression usually hits because firstly, its the loss of being a single entity, soon you will be responsible for another person. Secondly, ALL women hate the idea of being the type of wife their mother was and MEN are obsessed with the idea of finding or expecting a wife who is or will be EXACTLY like their mother! (UGH!! This really made me sick!). Thirdly, everyone talks about how to book the hairstylist and the dressmakers but nobody tells you that theres more to "And they lived happily ever after" that is so not the end...and I think maybe thats why so many women are dissapointed or depressed because they are delusioned that its always going to be all happy happy! Anyway the show was a real eye opener! All the things that little boys are taught...to make them strong and manly are the very things that will make them lousy husbands!:P (2:15 AM) ~`~
